Mahoning sheriff honors workers for their service

YOUNGSTOWN — Mahoning County Sheriff Jerry Greene on Wednesday honored more than 30 of his employees for their service over the past year.

Green presented this year’s Sheriff’s Office Awards and Recognition as part of the observance of National Police Week.

Among the honorees, 19 officers received awards for their meritorious service. Another eight were honored for excellent police duty, three received commendation letters and one received the office’s Life Saving Award.

As part of the ceremony, Greene also administered the oath of office to recently promoted deputy Jeremy Gorby, who was first hired as a housing deputy in the jail in April 2024. His wife, Anna, and son J.T. were also present for the event.
