Austintown shooting victim identified
AUSTINTOWN — Officials have formally identified the man killed in a Wednesday shooting in Austintown.
A press release from the Mahoning County Coroner’s Office on Thursday states that St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital informed the coroner just after 8 a.m. Wednesday of the death of Zachary Fisher, 30, of Austintown.
The release states only that Fisher was the victim of the shooting and that an autopsy was conducted at the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner’s Office.
A news release and police report issued Wednesday afternoon by Austintown police Chief Valorie Delmont states that multiple calls came in about 7:15 a.m. Wednesday about shots in the area of New Road and Laurie Drive, near the New Road Car Wash and the Golden Food Mart convenience store.
Dispatchers then told police that there may have been a car crash before a fight began, that one man was shot and another person was attempting CPR.
The report states that the first officers on scene continued emergency medical care until Fisher could be transported to the hospital, where he later died. Neither the police report nor the coroner’s press release states whether the gunshot wound was the only injury or if he was also injured by a car crash.
The report states that another man and a woman were separated at the scene and questioned by detectives to determine how they were involved. Two children in one of the vehicles were turned over to a family member who arrived later.
The two vehicles involved were taken as evidence. The case remains under investigation, and Delmont’s statement says no additional information will be provided at this time.
