Fight at Boardman park leads to shooting
YOUNGSTOWN — Police are still searching for two people who shot at a South Side house Tuesday night.
A Youngstown police report states that someone named Kyree Phillips allegedly shot at a house on East Ravenwood Avenue sometime after 5:30 p.m. Tuesday while hanging out the passenger’s side window of a car allegedly driven by LaKeisha Hough.
The report notes that the shooting, in which nobody was apparently wounded, resulted from a fight at Boardman Park less than an hour earlier.
The police report states that witnesses saw a gray Nissan pass, which they believed to be Hough’s, and a man’s arm reached out of the car and opened fire. Bullets struck the house and a rental car being driven by a relative who was in town from South Carolina for a funeral.
While police were beginning their investigation and reporting, they were notified that the same car drove by again and someone opened fire a second time.
The report states that Phillips has an address on Buckeye Court on the city’s East Side, while Hough is known to live on Winona Drive near Mill Creek Park.
A Boardman police report states that officers were called to the park just before 5 p.m. for a large fight in the parking lot. Police from Poland, Beaver, Struthers and Mill Creek MetroParks also responded to help with crowd control.
One woman went to the Boardman police station after leaving the scene and told police the fight began during a memorial gathering at a pavilion in the park. She said she saw one person chasing and attacking her daughter and another person attacking her other daughter. Both daughters are juveniles.
The Boardman report states that the fight began between a member of that woman’s family and a distant relation, and may have erupted over someone holding a baby.
One officer’s supplement states that police struggled to disperse the crowd, and that two people appeared to be grabbing at another officer’s utility belt.
The reporting officer stated that he used pepper spray, and the two fled and left the scene before he could catch up with them. It is not clear if that couple matches the description of Hough and Phillips.
