WHAT: Board of education meeting April 8
PRESENT: Cheryl Kistler, Niki Reid, William Catlin, Rebekah Conn and Michelle Wells
The board:
● Heard from Superintendent Greg Bonamase, who said the planetarium at the high school will be used for the 2026-27 school year and staff will receive in-house professional development on use of the room and its equipment.
● Heard from Bonamase about talks with village officials on the possible future use of the park ballfields for boys baseball. He said the girls softball team uses the village park fields while the boys teams use the field behind the elementary school.
● Approved Lauren DeJulio for additional duties as Education Management Information Systems coordinator at $2,500 for the remainder of this school year and $5,000 for the 2026-27 year.
● Approved a trip for junior high school students to Hershey, Pa., on May 11.
● Recognized Maria Mangine, music/band teacher, for being named “Young Educator of the Year” by the Youngstown/Warren Regional Chamber at an awards ceremony last month.
● Received a $1,000 donation from Lordstown Christian Church for the elementary backpack program.

WHAT: Village council meeting Monday
PRESENT: Robert Bond, Mark McGrail, Lamar Liming, Jamei Moseley, Jessica Blank, Ron Radtka and Mayor Jackie Woodward
Council:
● Heard from Village Engineer Chris Kogelnik who said the state Route 45 water booster station has received $200,000 in American Rescue Plan funds that need to be used by the fall. The $620,000 project is out for bid. Kogelnik said other projects planned are Lyntz Road resurfacing and state Route 45 shoulder project.
● Heard from Buildings and Streets Superintendent Martin Nelder that crews have dealt with flooding damage from recent rainstorms that uprooted trees because of very saturated ground.
● Announced Alexander Pest Control will do mosquito spraying June 16, July 16, Aug. 19 and Sept. 10. There is a “Do Not Spray” list for certain properties in the village.
● Announced the mobile food market van will be 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. April 26 at Imperial Mobile Home Park.
● Approved updates to the fire code requiring annual inspection by the fire chief of each commercial and industrial business within the village.
● Announced the community picnic will be 1 to 4 p.m. May 16 at the park.
