Man, 30, arraigned in North Side robbery

YOUNGSTOWN –Keanu Shelton, 30, was arraigned Wednesday in Youngstown Municipal Court on a charge of aggravated robbery in a 6:34 p.m. Tuesday incident on Hammaker Avenue on the North Side in which he is accused of robbing a man at gunpoint and taking his cross-body satchel, which contained a handgun, paperwork from his job and his wallet.

Officers responded to Hammaker for a robbery and spoke with the victim, who said he was sitting in his vehicle when three men, including Shelton and a man who frequently begs at a corner store at Belmont Avenue and Wirt Street, according to a Youngstown police report.

The men questioned the victim about something in the past and a gun was pointed at the victim’s head. After they took valuables from the victim, they walked away. As they did, one of them fired a shot at his car. An officer saw a bullet hole in the driver’s side rear-view mirror, the report states.

The victim said all three men had guns, and they pointed them at him. No bullet shell casings were found at the scene.

Officers later located Shelton’s vehicle on Alameda Avenue.

The report does not state how Shelton was found and taken into custody, but states that Shelton “was going to be placed under arrest for aggravated robbery to be later transported to the Mahoning County jail.”
