Man jumps from top of parking deck
YOUNGSTOWN — A man jumped from the top of the former Eastern Gateway Community College parking deck at 7:24 p.m. Friday.
A man and woman told police they saw the man get out of a car on Champion Street near East Federal Street and run into the parking deck. “A few moments later, they heard a loud boom and (saw a man) laying on the roadway,” a police report states.
Youngstown police said when they arrived, they saw a male on his back on Champion Street. A woman was crouched down next to him, comforting him while her boyfriend told police what they saw.
He said he and the woman were in their vehicle on Champion Street waiting to go to the nearby Covelli Centre when they saw the man “exit his white Volkswagen Jetta” and run into the parking deck. Then the man fell.
Officers saw a large indent on the hood of the Volkswagen where the man landed, a Youngstown police report states.
The man told police that he jumped off the top level of the parking deck. The man was taken to St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital, where he was in stable condition, the report states.
Officers walked through the parking deck looking for signs of the location where something had happened, but did not find anything, the report states.
The building appears to be about the equivalent of at least a three-story building.
