Man arraigned on assault after shooting
YOUNGSTOWN — William L. Huffman, 33, was arraigned Friday in Youngstown Municipal Court on two counts of felonious assault in a Thursday evening incident on Cambridge Avenue on the South Side in which a man was shot in the hip.
Court records show that Huffman is set for a preliminary hearing at 9:30 a.m. Nov. 24. No bond amount was listed for Huffman in court or jail records. He remained in jail as of Friday afternoon.
Youngstown police were called to Cambridge Avenue at 9:20 p.m. for a shooting. Other officers responded to St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital for a man who had been shot in the hip and foot.
When officers arrived on Cambridge Avenue, they went inside and saw apparent blood spatter on the living room floor, front door handle and the door handle to the upstairs bedroom, which was locked, the report states.
Officers checked the first floor and basement without finding anyone. While checking the second floor, officers found several firearms, the report states. One gun was on a bed and appeared to be jammed and had a bullet next to it. Another gun was by a “hidden passageway,” and a smaller pistol also was found, the report states.
The report states that officers outside the home saw two people walk up to the home stating they were the owners of the home. One of the men was Huffman. The report does not state who the other “involved person” was. A witness identified Huffman as the suspect, the report states.
A Youngstown police detective, Capt. Jason Simon of the detective division and a crime scene investigator arrived to investigate. Officers determined that one of the firearms belonged to Huffman, and it was logged into evidence. Huffman was taken to the police station for questioning and later to the county jail on a charge of felonious assault.
