Woman accused of interfering with chase

Charged with felony after police say she obstructed officers during pursuit

YOUNGSTOWN — The Youngstown Police Department says Shanae K. Adams, 34, interfered with a Youngstown police chase of another vehicle at 10:54 p.m. Saturday and was arrested and charged with felony obstructing official business.

She remained in the Mahoning County jail Monday after being arraigned in Youngstown Municipal Court.

The incident began with officers seeing a tan Ford Escape traveling north on South Avenue at a high rate of speed and failed to use a turn signal while changing lanes.

Officers got behind the vehicle and activated lights and siren to stop traffic at South and Williamson avenues, the report states.

The Escape led police on a lengthy pursuit through all sides of the city, reaching speeds of 90 mph, passing vehicles, disobeying traffic control devices and disregarding police.

The pursuit was eventually terminated by police who checked areas associated with the license plate, but nothing was found. During the pursuit, officers noticed a maroon Dodge Ram pickup truck also disregarding traffic laws following the pursuit. While the pursuit traveled down Lansdowne Boulevard at speeds of more than 70 mph, the Ram pulled out into the opposite lane of travel in front of officers who were chasing the Escape, allowing the Escape driver to gain a lot of ground on officers, the report states.

A short time after that, officers in another cruiser blocked the Ram from interfering further and conducted a traffic stop, leading to the arrest of Adams on the felony offense.

As for the Escape, officers learned that it had been detected heading south on Tiffany Boulevard from Boardman-Poland Road in Boardman. Officers checked the hotels in the area, finding the Escape in a parking spot at the Residence Inn off of Tiffany Boulevard. The driver of the Escape was not found.
