YOUNGSTOWN — A 3-year-old boy died Monday night after being shot about 5 p.m. Monday in a home in the 2000 block of Pointview Avenue on the South Side, according to Youngstown police.

The boy died later at the hospital, said Lt. Mohammad Awad of the Youngstown police detective division.

Pointview Avenue is two blocks north of Midlothian Boulevard, just east of I-680.

Awad said the investigation is in the early stages and there has been a lack of cooperation among people who may have been inside the home.

When asked whether the death appears to be a homicide, Awad said Tuesday afternoon that the police department is awaiting the completion of the autopsy and will consult with prosecutors before making any determinations.

The Youngstown Police Department released a report on the incident Tuesday morning, but it did not contain any additional information.
