Joshua L. Mahone, 19, agrees to lesser charge

YOUNGSTOWN — Joshua L. Mahone, 19, of Woodside Avenue, pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of aggravated assault Monday in a Jan. 11 shooting of a man in a Lakewood Avenue home on the South Side.

Mahone was indicted on a charge of felonious assault with a three-year gun specification, but he pleaded guilty to aggravated assault, a low-level felony.

Prosecutors are recommending that he get 30 months in prison. Judge R. Scott Krichbaum of Mahoning County Common Pleas Court ordered the Community Corrections Association of Youngstown to carry out a presentence investigation of Mahone’s background and criminal history. Mahone will be sentenced at 8:30 a.m. June 26.

The victim was found when police arrived for the 6:28 p.m. incident. An officer found the man lying on the living room floor stating he had been shot in the back. Ambulance personnel arrived shortly after and took him to St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital, where he was listed in stable condition by medical staff.

Mahone turned himself in to law enforcement a short time later after an arrest warrant was issued in Youngstown Municipal Court.
