Austintown robotics team finishes 44th in world competition

Staff writer

AUSTINTOWN — The Austintown Falco Tech FIRST Robotics team placed 44th out of 74 teams at the world championship over the weekend in Houston.

The team competed against teams from around the world at the George R. Brown Convention Center.

Andy Yantes, one of the team advisers, said the team finished the competition 6-4. This was the third time in the team’s history to make it to the world competition.

Yantes said the team did well this season after placing second in a regional competition in Cincinnati. He said the team was excited to compete at the event and also to meet teams from Australia and many other countries.

“They met a lot of people from all over the world.” Yantes said.

The Austintown team was one of 10 teams from Ohio to make it to worlds.

The team includes seven members in grades nine and 10 from Austintown Fitch, Jackson-Milton and Mineral Ridge high schools.

The team will host a welcome home event / fundraiser 4 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Buffalo Wild Wings in the Austintown Plaza.
