Man accused of assault pees in police car

BOARDMAN — A local man is accused of making a mess in a police cruiser after being arrested on a domestic assault charge over the weekend.

Stephen Douglas Hogan, 34, of Boardman, was arrested Dec. 30 after his roommate said Hogan attacked him in their apartment. Although Hogan was taken to jail that night, charges were only formally filed on Tuesday.

The report from the Boardman Police Department states that officers arrived at the Leighton Avenue home around 10:30 p.m.Saturday following an open 911 call during which dispatchers could hear two men arguing. Hogan left by the time police arrived.

According to the report, the roommate told police Hogan was distraught about making his family upset with him, and then took off his shirt and yelled at the man to leave him alone. But the roommate said Hogan followed him into the kitchen and attacked him from behind.

The roommate told police that Hogan grabbed his face, dug his nails in, slammed his head against a kitchen cabinet, and then hit him in the ear, the report states.

He said Hogan backed off but threatened to “come back and (expletive) him up.” The roommate said Hogan also punched a hole in a wall and broke the TV remote. The roommate told police he was afraid, so he took his dog and left.

The report states that Hogan’s sister later called the roommate and gave him a ride home. Hogan was not there when he arrived, but returned only minutes later and began yelling because he could not get into the apartment, threatening to kill the roommate and his dog.

That was the argument police dispatchers heard over the phone.

Not long after police left, the roommate called to report Hogan had come back and was sitting outside the house with a friend. Police found him there and arrested him.

The report states that Hogan moved between being angry and emotional during the ride to jail, banging his head on the partition. He then told the officer he needed to urinate and did so in the back of the car. The officer reported that he had to clean the cruiser later.

Once at the jail, the report states, police determined that the incident required further investigation and Hogan was released.

On Tuesday, Hogan appeared in Mahoning County Boardman Court on a charge of aggravated menacing. Judge Joseph Houser imposed a $2,500 cash or surety bond, set a pretrial hearing for Jan. 25, and ordered Hogan to have no contact with the roommate, court records show.

Starting at $3.23/week.
