Youngstown board awards street paving contract

YOUNGSTOWN – The city’s board of control approved a contract that is nearly $300,000 under the estimated cost for an improvement project to three main streets. The board of control on Thursday voted 3-0 to award the $1,335,469 contract to Lindy Paving of New Galilee, Pa. Lindy and Shelly & Sands Inc. of North Jackson, with a $1,668,010.94 bid, were the only two companies that submitted proposals for the work by the Oct. 16 deadline. Canfield council updated on mastodon bones

CANFIELD - A search continues for the body of a mastodon in the city, City Manager David D’Apolito announced at this week's city council meeting. “The Mahoning Valley Archeological Society contacted me about doing a soil study in Fair Park,” D’Apolito said. “They are trying to locate the rest of the mastodon that was on display at the Canfield Historical Society.” He said a team was sent in to take soil samples around the area of the park where the mastodon skull was reported to have been found.
