AP Ohio Gov.-elect Dr. Amy Acton applauds during an election night event Tuesday in Columbus.

Gov.-elect Amy Acton launched a transition website and named John Haseley, a senior adviser on her campaign, as transition chairman.

Those who want to apply to join Acton's administration and receive updates about the transition, can go online to govelectacton.com.

Acton, a Democrat, defeated Republican Vivek Ramaswamy by 7.93% in Tuesday's race for governor.

Acton beat Ramaswamy by 11.73% in Mahoning County and by 7.05% in Trumbull.

In a video message released Thursday, Acton, a Youngstown native, thanked Ohio for the support.

Acton said: "You chose hope, you chose unity and decency, you chose a future where every Ohioan has a chance to get ahead. Growing up in Youngstown, I never could have imagined that the girl who once struggled to find a place to call home would one day have the extraordinary honor of serving as your next governor. But that is the promise of Ohio - that no matter where you come from, no matter what hardships you faced, your story is still being written."

Acton said with the transition, "we begin writing a new chapter together. I'll wake up every day fighting to lower your costs, to strengthen our schools, protect your healthcare and make sure your hard work is rewarded with a good life. We have challenges ahead, but I believe in the people of this state with all of my heart."

Acton said she looks "forward to working with my colleagues in the Legislature to make life better for all Ohioans. Together, we'll build a state where no one is forgotten and everyone gets a fair shot."

Acton's first decision was to select Haseley as chairman of her transition.

Haseley served as a senior adviser to Acton during the campaign for governor. Haseley previously served as chief of staff to Ted Strickland when he was governor and as a congressman serving parts of the Mahoning Valley.
