Walnut Grove vandalized

Park seeks donations for repairs

CANFIELD — The Walnut Grove’s Little Free Library and two of the drums on its playground have been vandalized.

The vandalism was discovered late last week, according to Walnut Grove board member Corey Patrick.

“We don’t have any staff so we don’t know exactly when it occurred,” he said. “We’re completely run by volunteers.”

Walnut Grove is an all-inclusive playground for children of all abilities.

Patrick said repairing the damage is estimated to cost between $500 to $1,000.

He also said this isn’t the first time the site has been vandalized this year.

“We had some unfortunate words (profanity) carved into our bathroom door earlier this year,” he said. “We have not fixed it yet.”

The Grove is not actively fundraising, but has posted a fundraiser on social media for those interested in donating.

On the post, Grove wrote: “If you’re willing to donate towards these repairs and the cost of security cameras, you can do so through this post. We appreciate all of your support.”

“We are sad to report that vandals have struck the Walnut Grove again,” the group also wrote. “If you see something, please say something. Our volunteers can’t be there all the time. Since we don’t receive any government funds, we have to rely on community donations to fix these issues. Please help keep The Walnut Grove a fun, clean place to play by watching your children and reporting others who are causing damage.”
