NORTH JACKSON — The inaugural Tough Tower competition will be held June 10 to 11 at Tri-County Tower, 8900 Mahoning Ave.

The event will feature eight teams of two tower technicians who are professionals in the telecommunications industry from across the country.

Challenges will range from rescue and installation to crane manoeuvrability and knot tying. Event sponsors STG Communication Services of Columbiana and Tri-County Tower of North Jackson initiated this event to draw attention to career opportunities in the telecommunications industry.

Teams will compete in eight preliminary industry-related challenges from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. June 10, both on the ground and on multiple training towers. On June 11, the semifinals and final rounds will take place to decide the ultimate winner. The semifinals are to begin at 9 a.m.

“We are excited to bring in the best from around the country to compete in Tough Tower,” Tri-County CEO Chris Thomas said. “This is a great networking opportunity for our industry, and a chance to show the amazing work tower technicians do on a daily basis.”

STG Communications events coordinator Amanda Gonzalez said the weekend events will include vendor and sponsor exhibits, in addition to the teams of tower climbers.

The event is free and open to the public.
