Driver faces failure to yield in crash that injured motorcyclists
COITSVILLE — Gloria J. Dothard, 64, of Coitsville Road in Lowellville, is charged with a minor misdemeanor of failure to yield on a left turn in Sunday’s accident near her home on state Route 616 that seriously injured three motorcyclists.
Dothard is scheduled to appear in Campbell Municipal Court for an arraignment hearing at 9 a.m. July 11.
Dothard turned her car in front of the motorcyclists while turning left into a driveway between Cooper Road and Walker Drive about 2 p.m. Sunday, a report states, resulting in the three motorcyclists being injured.
The driver of the first motorcycle is Paul Halfelder, 56, of Austintown, who was riding a Kawasaki Vulcan. He took evasive action to avoid the car but did not come in contact with the car. He was wearing a helmet, the Ohio State Highway Patrol reports.
The driver of the second motorcycle is Harold Hagerty, 55, of Youngstown. His passenger is Patricia Hagerty, 56, of Youngstown, according to the highway patrol, which investigated the crash. The Hagertys were on a Can-Am Spyder, a three-wheeled motorcycle. They were not wearing helmets, the patrol said. Patricia Hagerty was flown to the hospital with critical injuries.
Dothard’s vehicle did not come in contact with the motorcycles, and Dothard was not injured.
Lt. Eric Brown, commander of the Canfield Post of the highway patrol, said the investigation into the crash is ongoing.
The motorcyclists were participating in a bike rally that had just left Papa’s Sports Bar on Poland Avenue in Youngstown. They were taking part in the 9th annual Teddy Foltz Poker Run, which is a fundraiser to support the Teddy Foltz Memorial Fund.
