Lordstown Motors back in production mode

Company announces maintenance / service partner

LORDSTOWN — Lordstown Motors Corp. has resumed production of its battery-powered Endurance truck after pausing assembly to work through supplier parts performance issues that led to the company issuing two recall notices.

The electric-vehicle startup, however, acknowledged in a release Tuesday that production and deliveries of the pickup “are expected to continue at a very low pace.”

The company also announced it has a service and warranty agreement with San Francisco Bay Area-based Amerit Fleet Solutions, a provider of fleet maintenance and repair programs across the U.S.

News of the production restart helped move Lordstown Motors’ stock up slightly, about 3 percent to close at 56 cents per share, just 4 cents above its all-time low.

The company halted production in February to address supplier quality issues involving the truck’s propulsion and braking systems. The issues led the company to issue recalls of the truck.

The first recall Feb. 22 dealt with an issue that could cause the truck to experience a loss of propulsion while driving. It affected 19 vehicles. The second recall March 1 was the result of a washer on the parking brake that had not been property heat treated by the manufacturer. It affected five vehicles.

Under terms of the agreement with Amerit Fleet Solutions, which is headquartered in Walnut Creek, Calif., the two companies will jointly provide EV service and warranty for the Endurance in key states allowed by law, as well as future vehicles developed by Lordstown Motors in collaboration with the Foxconn, the contract manufacturer of the vehicle.

The release states Amerit is executing plans for the rollout of service locations aligned with Lordstown Motors’ launch plan for initial fleet customers. Prior to the launch of services, Amerit service technicians will complete an extensive safety training program as well as Lordstown Motors’ training curriculum for the Endurance and other future vehicles.

“Amerit is a perfect fit with Lordstown because it is a well-established service provider to the fleet and commercial industry with experience in the service and maintenance of EVs,” said Edward Hightower, CEO / president of Lordstown Motors. “Our vehicles and connectivity features, combined with Amerit’s mobile service network and innovative maintenance solutions, provide Lordstown with the ability to offer a comprehensive and customized EV experience for our fleet customers.”

Said Amerit CEO Dan Williams, “With over 1,800 trained and certified technicians across the country, our customized approach to service programs, and our expertise in providing EV maintenance solutions, we believe that Amerit is ideally suited to rapidly scale services to Lordstown’s Endurance customers and vehicle programs in the future.”
