Youngstown man indicted after child rape allegations

YOUNGSTOWN — A Mahoning County grand jury has indicted Martin L. Demaline, 34, of Halleck Street, on four counts of rape, one count of pandering obscenity involving a minor or impaired person, two counts of unlawful sexual conduct with a minor and two counts of gross sexual imposition.

His indictment alleges that he raped and otherwise sexually assaulted a child between late 2019 and as recently as June 28. The child was younger than 13 at the time of some of the alleged offenses. If convicted of certain rape charges, Demaline could get a life prison sentence.

A resident of a home on the North Side reported early June 28 that a girl was raped the night before, according to a Youngstown police report.

Police were called to the home to talk to a relative of the alleged victim. Then police went to Demaline’s home on Halleck and found Demaline, who immediately was placed in custody and taken to the police department to be interviewed by police detectives.

Demaline’s cellphone was seized and placed into evidence, police said in a report. Demaline gave a statement to police, and the juvenile involved spoke to employees of the Child Advocacy Center.

While Demaline was at the Youngstown Police Department, he had a seizure and was taken to St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital, police said. He later was taken to the Mahoning County jail. He has been there since June 29, according to jail records.
