Austintown board approves new employees

AUSTINTOWN — The Austintown Board of Education on Thursday accepted 11 resignations, approved 20 new hires and transfers, and approved 20 athletic positions.

Chloe Kephart, a language arts teacher at Austintown Fitch High School; Stacy Sahli, a science teacher and Link Crew adviser at Fitch; and Brent Villella, a math teacher at Austintown Middle School, each resigned to accept positions in other school districts.

Melissa Pezzuolo resigned her position as Fitch Spirit Club adviser, but will remain in her full-time position.

Other resignations were Mallory Silvestri, assistant coach to the boys and girls tennis teams; Tammy Romeo, Falcon Fives Pre-K teacher; Taylor Romeo, Falcon Fives Pre-K aide; Stevie Hacon, Falcon Fives Pre-K aide; Michael Puhalla, district bus driver; and Adam Dempsey, district bus driver.

Austintown Treasurer Blaise Karlovic said the district typically receives 10 to 15 resignations at the end of each school year, so this year was not unusual.

Nine new hires will be part of the Austintown Education Association:

• Emily Frame will replace Sara Ress as K-12 art teacher with a starting salary of $35,148;

• John Martin will replace Kathleen Brown as K-12 music director with a starting salary of $35,148;

• Kyle O’Donnell will be K-12 music director, in a newly created position, with a starting salary of $40,737;

• Megan Klein will replace Dawn Rhodes as K-12 intervention specialist with a starting salary of $40,737;

• Stacy Marciano will replace Antonetta Malvestuto as K-12 intervention specialist with a starting salary of $56,940;

• Derek Basinger will replace Mallory Silvestri as a Fitch science teacher with a starting salary of $35,148;

• Dylan Hogue will be the coordinator of student success for Fitch and Austintown Middle School, a new, grant-funded position, with a starting salary of $37,960;

• Nicole Steiner will replace Monica Theis as a fifth-grade math and science teacher, with a starting salary of $57,890;

• Kristin Chahine will replace Kristie Gregory as a fifth-grade language arts and social studies teacher, with a starting salary of $46,747.

Four staff members already part of the Austintown Education Association will be transferred:

• Nicole Fiddler, a current AMS computer technology teacher, will be transferred to replace Christine Kinnick as a business teacher at Fitch;

• Antonetta Malvestuto, a current Fitch intervention specialist, will replace Amanda Laird as AMS intervention specialist;

• Steven DiBacco, a current AES computer technology teacher, will replace Nicholas Mediate as Fitch and AMS computer technology teacher;

• Tamara Deeley, a current computer technology teacher for AES and AIS, will replace Steven DiBacco as AES computer technology teacher.

The following athletic contracts for Fitch were renewed: John Hudson as the freshman boys basketball coach, Brian Beany as the head boys varsity basketball coach, John Burd as the head wrestling coach, Robert Korenic as a football defensive assistant, John Fitzgerald as a football defensive assistant, Davanzo Tate as a football defensive assistant, Cory Lanterman as the football offensive coordinator, Jeff Bruno as a football offensive assistant, Mike Polder as a football offensive assistant, Christopher Martini as the football Junior Varsity coach and Nathaniel Armstrong as the football freshman head coach.

The Falcons added five new coaches to the staff: David Potkonicky as a girls soccer assistant coach, Giovanni Morton as a boys soccer assistant coach, Marcus DeBaldo as a boys soccer assistant coach, George Prosser as a girls tennis assistant coach and Dylan Hogue as a football offensive assistant.

AMS retained three coaches: Jody Baylor as the seventh and eighth-grade girls volleyball coach, Brian Forgac as the head wrestling coach and Sonya Perry as the 8th-grade girls basketball coach.
