YOUNGSTOWN — A city woman, 35, recently reported that her dog was stolen from a home on West Hylda Avenue on the South Side, but on Wednesday morning she was victimized again.

A man apparently posing as wanting to help her get her dog back contacted her, lured her to Breaden Street, where he took a $30 finder’s fee from her and left without giving her the dog.

Police were called to Third Baptist Church, 1177 Park Hill Drive on the West Side at 6:55 a.m. regarding the incident.

A woman there said she reported her dog being stolen from West earlier from Hylda Avenue and posted information on Facebook about it and gave her cellphone number.

The woman said she received a phone call from a man who said he had found her dog. She made arrangements to meet him at the U Haul store on Mahoning Avenue, where she was going to give him a $30 finder’s fee to get her dog back.

She had her female friend go with her to meet the man. On the way to the U Haul, the man called her to change the location to the 300 block of Breaden Street on the South Side.

When she got there, a man in his 40s or 50s about 6 feet tall and weighing 170 pounds with a beard waved her over.

He immediately asked her for the money. She tried to get out of the car to talk to him but he extended his hand and took the $30 from her hand and walked to a vehicle.

He pointed to a house nearby and said that someone in the house would bring out the dog.

The women went up to the house, where someone said the man sometimes comes to the house, but they do not know his name. The dog was not returned.

Police checked the area for the man or his car and checked an address for the car but could not find it.
