BOARDMAN — Troopers from the Canfield Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol are investigating a one-vehicle injury crash that closed U.S. Route 224 for more than three hours after 5:45 a.m. Friday.

Erik Maniecki, 27, of Coraopolis, Pa., received minor injuries. He was treated at the scene, the patrol said.

Maniecki was driving a 2015 Volvo tractor-trailer. The entire cab was damaged.

He was westbound on Route 224, when he struck a manhole cover that was displaced from the manhole. The cover bounced up and struck his fuel tank, which contained compressed natural gas. The tank was ruptured, causing an explosion.

The Boardman Township police and fire departments as well as the Ohio Department of Transportation were on the scene.
