AUSTINTOWN — Construction is underway on Mahoning Avenue in the township, causing traffic delays on the busy road.

The repaving project is for the entire length of the road in Austintown from the Youngstown border at Meridian Road to the Meander Reservoir at the Jackson Township border. More than five miles of road is being repaved, as well as installing new curb ramps.

The $2.27 million project should take four months to complete. Lindy Paving Inc. of New Galilee, Pa., is the project’s contractor.

The avenue won’t be closed during construction, but traffic will be reduced to one lane in sections and delays are expected throughout the work. Federal funding is covering 80 percent of the project’s cost.
