Warrant issued for city man in burglary case

WARREN — A Youngstown man who failed to appear in Trumbull County Common Pleas Court now has a warrant for his arrest in a burglary, and is accused in an alleged Monday assault in Austintown.

Michael Rivers, 37, of 260 Potomac Ave., Youngstown, is wanted for aggravated burglary and two counts of having weapons as a felon, court records show. Trumbull County prosecutors said Wednesday when Rivers didn’t show up in court that he’s at large.

Judge W. Wyatt McKay issued a warrant for his arrest.

The victim of the alleged Austintown assault is also a witness in the aggravated burglary case, prosecutors also said Wednesday.

According to an Austintown police report, about 5:38 a.m. Monday, police were dispatched to 4621 Burkey Road on a report of a male assaulting a female with a firearm.

The report states the victim was found bleeding “significantly from the back of her head and her left ear.”

Another woman with the victim told police Rivers appeared and started hitting the victim with a black firearm. Rivers was upset with the victim because she’s in a relationship with the other woman, the report states.

The victim told police she was in the driver’s seat of a vehicle when Rivers attacked her.

Both women were able to fight Rivers long enough for the victim to get her firearm in self-defense, the police report states. The victim added that another struggle over the firearm occurred, in which Rivers ended up obtaining the firearm and fleeing.

The victim was taken to St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital. The other woman was able to give police two Youngstown addresses, including the Potomac Avenue address. Austintown police requested Youngstown police to check both residences for Rivers, but YPD was unable to locate him.
