Emaciated dog found in ‘deplorable’ Girard home

GIRARD — Charges have been filed against a 39-year-old woman after Girard police were tipped off that a black labrador was abandoned in a Second Street home that was described by police as being in “absolute disarray.”

Court records show that Lisa Drummond faces one count of cruelty to animals and her arraignment is scheduled for May 14 in Girard Municipal Court. Police made the discovery about 6 p.m. Monday when authorities arrived in the 100 block of Second Street.

Neighbors informed police that this situation had persisted for an extended period of time and told police Drummond and a man occasionally visit the property to remove items, but left the dog behind each time. Some residents stated it had been over a month since they last observed consistent activity at the house.

Upon questioning, Drummond said she was planning to take the dog to the pound the following day but acknowledged that the animal had been left unattended for “quite awhile.”

Law enforcement officers described the condition of the home as “the epitome of deplorable” and noted widespread filth, overturned furniture and feces covering every room’s floor.

Despite two thorough searches, authorities were unable to locate the dog inside the residence. Subsequently, a concerned neighbor informed police that they had removed the animal. The dog was then released into the custody of Jason Cooke of the Healthy Hearts and Paws Project.
