The Ohio Department of Health reported 1,809 new COVID-19 cases on Sunday, bringing the total to 939,350 since the pandemic began almost a year ago.

Six new deaths also were reported, moving the state’s total to 16,346. Hospitalizations rose by 64 over the last 24 hours, with eight ICU admissions.

Mahoning County added 35 COVID-19 cases for a total of 18,852, with 896 hospitalizations and 519 deaths.

Trumbull County cases increased by 38 for a total of 13,853, with 986 hospitalizations and 438 deaths.

Columbiana County has 7,902 cases, 458 hospitalizations and 175 deaths.

Last week, local health departments began rolling out COVID-19 vaccinations for those ages 65 and older.

Mahoning, Trumbull and Columbiana counties are moving through the stages of vaccine distribution as indicated by the Ohio Department of Health, vaccinating those most at risk first.

Also last week with numbers of cases not as high as in previous months, Gov. Mike DeWine lifted the 11 p.m.-to-5 a.m. curfew.

As of last Wednesday, the state was fewer 2,500 new cases for nine straight days. DeWine said once the curfew is lifted, it can be reimposed if COVID-19 hospitalizations increase.

Ranking by the case count, Mahoning County is 11th out of the state’s 88 counties, while Trumbull County is at 17th and Columbiana County is ranked 27th.
