Travel center eyes Beaver Township site

Love’s proposes project on state Route 7 near turnpike

NORTH LIMA — A new travel center could be coming to Beaver Township.

Rick Martin, township zoning director, confirmed Monday that Love’s Travel Stops has proposed building on state Route 7, south of the Ohio Turnpike on a 15-acre vacant parcel.

The new center would include a mini-convenience store, tire repair shop and a national food chain. Martin said a decision has not been made on which chain Love’s would be teaming up with for the new location.

Because the project is in its infancy, total cost has not yet been decided.

A Speedway is near the proposed Love’s site, and Martin said that area occupies about 2 acres, and Speedway invested about $3 million.

He estimated that the Love’s project will be “significantly more than that.”

The first official discussion on the project took place July 8, Martin said.

Company representatives said then that they want to start construction in spring of 2021 and be open in November or December of 2021.

Love’s will use local contractors, Martin said.

A stormwater retention pond will be included in the project, he added.

Love’s will have to apply for zoning variances, Martin said, as conditional use permits will need to be submitted for signs for some of the services that will be offered at the site.

Headquartered in Oklahoma City, Love’s has about 500 locations in 41 states.

A request for comment was not immediately returned Monday by Love’s.
