Struthers schools treasurer selected

STRUTHERS — A new treasurer is in place for the Struthers City School District.

Ryan Cene of Poland was chosen out of 13 applicants for the position, according to Pete Pirone, superintendent for the district.

Cene will earn $71,000 for the 18-month contract he was awarded, Pirone said.

“I am excited to begin 2020 as the treasurer of Struthers City Schools,” Cene said in a statement, adding, “The city of Struthers and the school district both mean a great deal to me, and I look forward to serving the students of Struthers and helping continue to move the district forward.”

Cene was appointed to the position during the Dec. 17, 2019, Board of Education meeting.

The appointment came after the treasurer position was vacated by Chester Leone when he won a seat on the district’s school board last November. Leone then resigned from the school board, citing personal reasons. He was succeeded by Patrick Bundy.

“The Struthers City School District’s search for their next treasurer was an intense and vigorous one,” said Ron Shives, president of the school board, in a statement. “At the end, the board was very excited to announce Ryan and welcome back a Wildcat to the district.”

Cene, who has worked in accounting for 15 years, graduated from Struthers High School in 2000, then Youngstown State University in 2004.

In 2018, Cene obtained his treasurer’s license.

Cene lives in Poland with his wife and two sons.
