Nuisance properties declared in Austintown

WHAT: Trustees Monday

PRESENT: Jim Davis, Ken Carano, Steve Kent

Trustees:

• Declared 39 S. Main St., 4740 Mahoning Ave., and 520 Westgate Ave. nuisance properties and declared junk vehicles at the following properties: 5520 Mahoning Ave., 3959 Lake Road, 5138 W. Webb Road, 114 Jarvit Court, and 103 N. Beverly Ave.;

• Heard from township Administrator Michael Dockry that this year the Mahoning County engineers plan to install a new signal and stripe the Raccoon Road and New Road intersection, repave Meridian Road from Interstate 80 north to County Line Road, repave Four Mile Run Road from the bridge north to County Line Road, and repave Viall Road and Burgett Lane. Mahoning Avenue is slated to be repaved in 2021;

• Heard from a township resident who was concerned about ambulance reponse times in light of problems Youngstown has been having with ambulances. Davis said Austintown Township has one ambulance through Lane Life Trans that stays in the township 24 / 7 and has three dedicated employees. There are also two other ambulance locations in the township, according to Davis;

• Heard from park Supervisor Todd Shaffer that fencing around three softball fields is expected to be finished in about a week;

• Heard from Jim Henshaw, Austintown Senior Center director, that there is now a “scam scooper” link on the center’s website, www.austintownseniorcenter.org, which details the latest scams. Printed guides to recognizing scams are available at the center. Henshaw said an IRS scam last year brought in $107 million, with the average person losing around $700 to the scam.
