Partaking in pumpkin prep

Correspondent photo / Anthony Szyczynski Liberty Township resident Sue Newman brought her great-grandchildren, Penelope, 7, and Parker, 10, to Fellows Riverside Gardens on Thursday to carve pumpkins that will be a part of Mill Creek MetroParks’ Pumpkin Walk at Twilight 5:30 to 8 p.m. Sunday.

YOUNGSTOWN — Fellows Riverside Gardens allowed visitors Thursday to welcome the fall season by carving pumpkins.

The carving tools and pumpkins were supplied, and the carved pumpkins will be on display Sunday at Mill Creek MetroParks’ Pumpkin Walk at Twilight.

“We come every year,” said Sue Newman of Liberty Township, who was joined by her great-grandchildren, Penelope, 7, and Parker, 10. “I bring my great-grandchildren to carve pumpkins for the pumpkin walk. Then we have to come back and see them.”

Picnic tables were set up in the service building where many people joined in on the carving.

This was Sarah Katsaras’ first visit to Fellows Riverside Gardens. She brought her daughter, Mary Jane — who said they came out “to eat lunch and to carve a pumpkin.”

The Pumpkin Walk at Twilight, a free event, takes place from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Sunday and features a pumpkin-lined path within the gardens. Candles within the jack-o’-lanterns will light up the pathway, making for a spooky spectacle. It is a family-friendly event with activities and live entertainment.

You can get in on the activities today and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. while pumpkin supplies last. For more details, call Fellows Riverside Gardens at 330-740-7116. Fellows Riverside Gardens / Davis Education & Visitor Center are at 123 McKinley Ave.
