Knight’s murder trial reset for December

YOUNGSTOWN — A Youngstown man charged in the late 2018 slaying of another man is expected to stand trial in December.

The trial of Lavontae Knight, 24, of 324 Ferndale Ave., was rescheduled for Dec. 16 before Mahoning County Common Pleas Judge John Durkin.

Durkin is deciding whether to allow the testimony of another shooting victim, who identified Knight in a photo lineup. Two Youngstown detectives testified Oct. 2 in an evidence suppression hearing.

Trevice Harris and a woman were gunned down Dec. 30, 2018, as they sat in a car at a Market Street gas station. Attorneys for Knight, who faces 11 felony charges, had petitioned the court to move the date of the trial which was originally scheduled to begin today.
