Mon. 9:21 a.m.: Donnie Iris diagnosed with cancer, will miss Youngstown date

Singer Donnie Iris has cancer.

Live Nation announced the diagnosis in a news release this morning that said the Ellwood City, Pa., singer would be unable to open for REO Speedwagon on June 21 at the Youngstown Foundation Amphitheatre.

According to the release, “Shortly after Donnie Iris’s sold out 80th birthday show in March, it was discovered that he had cancer. He’s got the best care, and everyone is very optimistic for his full return to health. He recently had surgery and his prognosis is good. But Donnie needs more time to heal, and as a result he will not be able perform.”

Iris still is slated to perform with Foreigner and Loverboy on July 24 at Blossom Music Center in Cuyahoga Falls.

Taking his place for the Youngstown date will be Levon, a a group that takes its name from the 1971 Elton John song. The trio of Michael David Hall, Jake Singleton and Ryan Holladay draw inspiration from the ’70s artist / songwriter generation, placing an emphasis on harmony-driven style built around compelling lyrics and memorable melodies to create music with a timeless quality.
