Woman ordered to repay money fraudulently taken

WARREN — A Sharon, Pa., woman who once was treasurer for Liberty Local Schools was sentenced in Trumbull County Common Pleas Court to five years of community control and will have to pay restitution.

Tracey Obermiyer, 52, formerly of Brookfield, in addition to repaying $218,022, also will report Monday to serve 180 days in the county jail.

She had pleaded guilty to charges linked to the theft and defrauding of thousands of dollars from a Brookfield veterinary business.

Obermiyer committed the offenses by embezzling thousands of dollars from Village Green Veterinary Service, authorities said.

She was sentenced today by Judge Sean O’Brien after pleading guilty last November to felony charges of grand theft, attempted identity fraud and forgery, all fourth-degree felonies for which she could have faced up to 54 months in prison.

The indictment stemmed from Obermiyer’s job as the former office manager of Village Green Veterinary Service of Hubbard from 2017 until she was fired in January 2019.

The charges stem from an investigation by Brookfield detective Sgt. Aaron Kasiewicz that began in June 2019. Kasiewicz stated the owner of Village Green reported inconsistencies in payroll, taxes and bank accounts.

In a separate civil lawsuit filed by the clinic, Obermiyer has been ordered by a judge to repay more than $268,000 plus interest for using the business’s funds to pay debts and other personal expenses.

In 2012, the state auditor’s office ruled she paid herself illegally almost $5,000 when she was the treasurer for Liberty Local Schools. According to a search of court records, however, she didnát face criminal charges in the case.
