Coroner’s office identifies man who died after being stabbed on East Side

YOUNGSTOWN — The Mahoning County Coroner’s Office has identified the man found in the grass at an apartment complex on Hickory Court on Youngstown’s East Side May 4 as Tyrell Hodge, 26.

Hodge’s body was found in the 1500 block of Hickory Court, east of Albert Street after police were called there for a male who had been stabbed. Officers said the male had been stabbed multiple times.

He was pronounced dead later at St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital.

Hodge was the seventh homicide of the year in the city.

A Youngstown police report stated that the man was found near the playground between two apartment buildings. He was laying on his back.

A person at the scene told police that the power had gone out, and he or she came outside to see if anyone else’s power had gone. That is when the person saw the male on the ground and gave assistance to him until officers arrived.

Another person told police he or she was standing in the area when he or she “saw several people fighting. And then the next thing he knew, a male was on the ground.”
