Dog may have been grazed by bullet

AUSTINTOWN — Township police were called to a home in the 3800 block of Mahoning Avenue about 1 p.m. Tuesday after receiving a call from a man claiming his Australian Shepherd was shot.

A police report states the caller said he and his wife were in their garage when they heard a gunshot. The man told police he went out of the garage and called for the dog, who came limping into the yard. The man said the dog was shot in its back right leg.

The report states he quickly took the dog to a South Meridian Road clinic where a veterinarian said he could not confirm the dog was shot, but was just grazed.

The man told police he believes the shot came from behind his residence and officers questioned a female resident at a home in the 3800 block of Potomac Avenue. The woman told police she did not hear a shot and has no knowledge of the incident.

The Mahoning County Dog Warden and the county’s humane agent were notified of the report.
