Man in custody in fire at Big A Drive-Thru

YOUNGSTOWN — Several days after a surveillance image of a person suspected of setting fire to the Big A Drive-Thru at 2525 Glenwood Ave., a man is in custody and charged with the offense.

Jamon M. Winphrie, 23, was booked into the Mahoning County jail Thursday. Youngstown Municipal Court records indicate Winphrie is charged with arson, a fourth-degree felony. No arraignment date is listed in the case. If convicted, he could get a year in prison.

Capt. Kurt Wright, arson investigator, filed the charge after releasing a photo of the suspect to the news media, which published the image last week.

The image was taken from surveillance video at the drive thru.

The fire began in the rear of the business at about 1:30 a.m. and damaged the siding, joists and walls, and caused about $15,000 in damage to the building and contents, according to a fire report. No one was injured.

When firefighters arrived, the business had heavy smoke and flames coming from the rear. The store turned over surveillance video.

Starting at $3.23/week.
