Schiavoni to be sworn in Tuesday

CANFIELD – Joe Schiavoni will be sworn in at 6 p.m. Tueday as a Mahoning County Court judge at a ceremony at the county court on North Broad Street in Canfield.

Jennifer Brunner, an Ohio Supreme Court justice-elect, will preside over the event.

Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the ceremony is closed to the public.

Schiavoni will take the bench at 1 p.m. Wednesday in the county court in Sebring.

Schiavoni, a former state senator, defeated J.P. Morgan 58 percent to 42 percent in the recent election.

Morgan had been appointed by Gov. Mike DeWine in March 2019 to fill an unexpired term on the bench. With his defeat by Schiavoni, Morgan’s appointed term now ends.
