COMMUNITY NEWS: Mooney plans medical fair
MEDICAL FAIR: Cardinal Mooney High School will host a medical fair for students 9 to 11 a.m. Tuesday as part of its expanding biomedical sciences program. The event, organized by the school’s biomed faculty and students, will feature a wide range of health care professionals offering insights into careers in the medical field.
Representatives from Southwoods Health, Briarfield Health Care Centers and Mercy Health, as well as numerous private practice professionals, are scheduled to attend. Participants include doctors, nurses, dentists, pharmacists, physical therapists and health care administrators.
In addition to guest professionals, Cardinal Mooney’s Biomedical Capstone students will present their recent research projects, which focus on teen health issues. Attendees will have the opportunity to hear directly from students about the research process, findings and the implications for adolescent health and decision-making.
MEN’S RALLY MEETING: The Men’s Rally in the Valley volunteer meeting will take place at 6:30 p.m. today at the Board of Control water hydraulics, 12024 Salem Warren Road, Salem. The rally is set for May 24 at Stambaugh Auditorium on Fifth Avenue in Youngstown.
RAILROAD GROUP TO MEET: All railroaders are invited to a breakfast meeting at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Family Kitchen and SmokeHouse Restaurant in Chester, West Virginia. For information, call Rocco at 330-853-3045.
PINK OUT: Pink Out Mahoning Valley is kicking off its 2025 season on Thursday with its first fundraiser since becoming a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization. Pink Out, in partnership with JR’z Pub, 1722 S. Raccoon Road, Austintown, is hosting an open mic fundraiser starting at 6 p.m. Performers can start signing up at 5:30 p.m.
The event will include a 50 / 50 raffle and a basket raffle. Donations for the basket raffle may be dropped off at JR’z Pub during regular business hours: Noon to 2:30 a.m. Tuesdays through Fridays; and 11 a.m. to 2:30 a.m. Saturdays. Proceeds will be used to help pay for costs associated with the annual Pink Out Music Festival, such as bandshell rental, gifts for cancer patients, music performances and promotions, among other expenses.

WOMEN’S CLUB: The Columbiana Women’s Club , a civic organization operating in a century house on Main Street in Columbiana, launches its 2025 six-part garden events series with Crafting and Herb Garden at noon Wednesday at Idabelle Firestone Gathering Place and Garden in Harvey S. Firestone Recreational Park, 338 E. Park Ave., Columbiana The event is sponsored by the Green Thumb Garden Club.
GIRARD LIBRARY EVENTS: The Girard Free Library will offer Cozy Crafters 6 p.m. today for anyone who knits, crochets or embroiders. Bring your current project and join a group of needle wielders. Share tips while also working on current projects.
MONDAY NIGHT WRITERS: The next meeting of Monday Night Writers will take place 5 to 6:30 p.m. May 19 at Leana’s Books & More, 4317 Kirk Road, Austintown. Area writers, both published and unpublished, are invited to attend. Led by author Nancy Christie, the meetings offer an opportunity for members to get group feedback on works-in-progress.
