Cavs face Pacers in Game 4

The Indiana Pacers ran the Cleveland Cavaliers off the court in the first half of Sunday’s Game 4 of the Eastern Conference playoffs.

Indiana led 80-39 at halftime after Aaron Nesmith drilled a fall-away jumper at the buzzer.

The Cavaliers missed five of their first six shots as the Pacers took a 14-5 four minutes into the first quarter.

The Pacers lost Bennedict Mathurin after the officials ruled he punched De’Andre Hunter with 4:32 to play in the first quarter. Hunter shoved Mathurin and was given a technical foul.

Indiana was dominant in the opening quarter. The Pacers led 38-23 after shooting 14-of-26 overall and 6-of-10 from 3-point range. The Cavaliers meanwhile, were held to 4-of-15 shooting with seven turnovers.

Indiana’s dominance continued in the second quarter as the Pacer lead grew to 48-23, forcing Cleveland to call a timeout with just under 10 minutes to play in the second.

By halftime, the Pacers hit 30-of-50 shots and 12-of-18 3-pointers.

Cleveland’s issues only got worse in the second quarter. The Cavaliers finished the first half with 14 turnovers and only shot 8-for-32 from the field. The turnovers led to 23 points for the Pacers, who controlled the paint, outscoring Cleveland 30-6 from underneath the basket.

Cleveland guard Donovan Mitchell led the team with 12 points. He was the team’s only double-digit scorer. Mitchell did not return to the bench at the start of the third quarter.
