SEEING EYE: Benefit dinner set in Struthers

FUNDRAISER SET FOR PRINCIPAL: A dinner fundraiser for Campbell Principal Kristin Fox, who had her arms and legs amputated because of an illness, will be held noon to 4 p.m. Saturday with a drive-thru pickup only at Donavito’s in Struthers.

FOOD PANTRY IN YOUNGSTOWN: Second Harvest Food Bank of the Mahoning Valley is collaborating with Youngstown City Schools and the Ohio National Guard to host a Traveling Food Pantry distribution 11 a.m. today at East High School.

Food Bank and members of the Ohio National Guard are prepared to serve more than 600 families.

The food will be distributed in front of the school. Vehicles must enter from East High Avenue. The vehicle’s trunk must be open and clear of all other belongings and windows must be rolled up to make it a no-contact distribution. Recipients are not to exit their vehicle for any reason.

The Traveling Food Pantry is a new program of Second Harvest Food Bank, operating as a direct result of the COVID-19 pandemic to help meet the increased need. The Traveling Food Pantry will make its next stop 11 a.m. Thursday at Beaver Local Schools. Additional dates and locations for the summer months will be released later this week.

GALLERY TO OPEN: Gallery 18 will hold an open studio 7 p.m. Saturday at the Calvin Center for the Arts, 755 Mahoning Ave., Youngstown.

PEST / PLANT CLINIC: The Ohio State University Extension will offer a virtual plant and pest clinic with Mahoning County Master Gardeners from 10 a.m. to noon each Thursday via Zoom teleconference. Mahoning County Master Gardeners will answer questions about gardening and pests. Online attendees will be able to speak directly with Master Gardeners.

VETERANS SERVICES: The Mahoning County Veterans Service Commission will offer free services, including van transportation, utility assistance, burial benefits and VA services. The offices are closed due to the COVID-19 stay-at-home orders.

SOCIETY CANCELS EVENTS: The Poland Historical Society has canceled its events for the summer due to the coronavirus and not knowing what the next several months will bring.
