Seeing Eye: Learn how to be an optimistic pessimist

WOMEN’S LUNCHEON: “I Saw a Daffodil!” is the theme for the Youngstown South Christian Women’s Connection luncheon, scheduled for 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. March 11 at Avion on the Water Banquet Center, 2177 W. Western Reserve Road, Canfield. Guest speaker is Terri Sevinsky of Cleveland, who will present “An Optimistic Pessimist.”

Cost is $14 and includes lunch, a fashion show by Chico’s and music by Bob Noble. Reservations are needed by Wednesday to Gloria at 330-360-2044. Cancellations must be made to Connie at 330-788-2340 or Patty at 330-332-2789.

BIRDING PROGRAM: Parks Garden Center in Canfield is hosting a “Family Birding 101” class 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday. The hourlong class will include bird identification, preferred foods and feeders, habitat, a make-and-take craft for the children and a tour of park’s bird seed-making facility.

Call Parks Garden Center at 330-533-7278 to register. There is a $5 fee payable at the class.

ORDER OF HIBERNIANS: The annual Ancient Order of Hibernians Joseph T. Nalley Sr. Mahoning County Division 6 St. Patrick’s Day Mass and Luncheon honoring the 2020 AOH Irish Man of the Year Terry McCarthy and the 2020 LAOH Irish Woman of the Year Maureen Coughlin will be held 10 a.m. March 14 at St. Patrick Church, 1410 Oak Hill Ave., Youngstown.

The Catholic organization was founded in New York City in 1836. The motto is “Friendship, Unity and Christian Charity” by financially supporting local charities and causes including St. Vincent de Paul Society, Sojourner House, Dorothy Day House, The Ulster Project, Catholic Charities, Cafe Augustine and Project St. Patrick, which assists seminarians as they study to become Catholic priests

The Mass is open to the public. Tickets are required for the luncheon at $25 each. Tickets are available for pre-sale by contacting Ray Kelly IV at 330-565-3158 or Mark Klacik at 330-550-4469. A limited amount of tickets may be available at the door. The menu consists of a traditional corned beef and cabbage lunch prepared by Chef Jeffrey Chrystal.

COOKIE FUNDRIASER: The Mahoning Valley Historical Society will annual cookie table and cocktail fundraiser will be held 6 to 10 p.m. Saturday at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Basilica social hall, 343 Via Mount Carmel Ave., Youngstown. The event will include basket raffle, 50-50 and silent auction.
