HUBBARD THANKSGIVING: Hubbard St Patrick Church, 357 N. Main St., will hold the third annual community Thanksgiving dinner 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday. The free event will provide meals to first responders, active military, senior citizens and others. RSVP at 330-534-1928.

THANKSGIVING EVE: The Unity Centre for Spiritual Living, 1226 Naylor Lloyd Road, Liberty will be celebrating a special service on Thanksgiving Eve, 7 p.m. Wednesday. Rick and Nina Miller, members of the band Following June, will share the stage with the Rev. Cay Tomerlin. Participants are asked to bring small percussive instruments to accompany an evening of music about thanks, gratitude, prosperity and joy.

SAUCE AND SONG: The monthly Sauce and Song event on Dec. 1, sponsored by Youngstown St. Patrick Church, will include a spaghetti dinner and an afternoon concert in the church.

The dinner will be 11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the social hall. The dinner includes the main entree, salad, bread, dessert and beverage. The cost is $8 for adults and $5 for children age 10 and under. Carryouts are available and containers are provided.

The one-hour afternoon concert will begin at 1:30 p.m. and will feature the combined choirs from St. Angela Merici Church and Youngstown St. Patrick Church under the direction of Kris Harper. Harper is the music director for both parishes as well as the permanent organist for the Villa Maria Community Center in Villa Maria, Pa. The program will include both sacred and seasonal musical selections, as well as a sing-along. The concert is free and open to the community, although free-will offerings will be welcomed.

CENTENNIAL CELEBRATION: St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church, 220 N. Walnut St., Youngstown, will mark its centennial anniversary Dec. 5 to 8. The Rev. Joseph DiStefano is the parish priest. The following anniversary events will include His Eminence Metropolitan Savas from the Greek Orthodox Metropolis of Pittsburgh, Pa., officiating: Church services and reception Dec. 5; St. Nicholas Day church service, luncheon and dance Dec. 6; cocktail reception and grand banquet Dec. 7; and church service and luncheon Dec. 8.

ADVENT SERVICE: An advent prayer service will be 6 p.m. Dec. 1 at St. Charles Borromeo Church, 7345 Westview Drive, Boardman. Service will be celebrated by the Rev. Gerald DeLucia. The event is sponsored by Men and Women United For Life.

DOCUMENTARY TO BE SHOWN: Ongoing Metaphysics will present the 90-minute documentary film on Edgar Cayce entitled “The Readings” at 6:45 p.m. Dec. 3 at The Unity Centre for Spiritual Living, 1226 Naylor Lloyd Road, Liberty.

The Japanese director, Tetsu Shiratori, learned about Edgar Cayce by researching Cayce’s health remedies for diseases like diabetes, rheumatism, psoriasis, and more. He was so inspired by this research, which included testimonials, Shiratori decided to produce a documentary. Also included in this documentary are re-enactments of some legendary moments in Cayce’s life like how he saved his wife through his readings and a scholarly discussion of Cayce’s legacy and impact on humanity. This viewing is free and open to the public but love offerings or donations will be accepted. Call the Centre at 330-539-0122.

LESSONS AND CAROLS: St. Columba Cathedral will present the annual Advent Procession of Lessons and Carols 7 p.m. Dec. 1. The program will feature the Cathedral Choir under the direction of Daniel Laginya, as well as readers and religious education students of the parish.

The program highlights the ancient “O Antiphons” and culminates with the Annunciation narrative. Contemporary choral settings of traditional seasonal texts will be featured.

The event is free. A reception will follow in the St. Columba hall.

CELEBRATING JESUS’ BIRTH: The Sisters of the Humility of Mary will celebrate the holiday season with their annual Nativity Display, an indoor Advent tradition featuring hundreds of nativity sets from around the world.

The Villa Maria Nativity Display will be noon to 5 p.m., Dec. 1 and 8 at Villa Maria Community Center, 288 Villa Drive, Villa Maria, Pa. Admission and parking are free. Private group tours are available for schools, churches, and other organizations from Dec. 2-6, upon request.

The event also will include entertainment from local musicians and choirs, nativities and unique Christmas gifts.

HOLIDAY EVENT: Jewish Community Center of Youngstown’s third annual holiday bazaar will be 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Dec. 1 at 505 Gypsy Lane. There will be a basket raffle and 50/50. Gift wrapping will be available for a donation.

PARISH SCHOOL REUNION: St. Joseph Parish, Austintown, will hold a reunion Nov. 30 for students who attended St. Joseph Parish Grade School in Austintown.

Mass will be celebrated at 4:30 p.m. and the reunion runs 5:30 to 7 p.m. at St. Joseph Parish Social Hall. Spouses and children are welcome. Guests are asked to bring memorabilia. Tours of the school building will be held.

St. Joseph Parish, Austintown, was established on June 17, 1966, by Bishop James W. Malone. The first Mass was celebrated at the Wellman Wedgewood Cinema in the Wedgewood Plaza on June 19, 1966.

Shortly after the establishment of the parish, plans were made for the construction of a church, school, social center and rectory. The first Mass was offered in the new church on June 16, 1968. St. Joseph School began that same year on Sept. 3 under the direction of the Sisters of Notre Dame.

In 2009-10, St. Joseph School merged with Immaculate Heart of Mary School, Austintown, at the IHM campus. Within five years St. Joseph / IHM School closed.

SELF DISCOVERY: Ongoing Metaphysics will sponsor four classes on Soul Collage at the Unity Centre for Spiritual Living, 1226 Naylor Lloyd Road, Liberty. Classes are 6:45 p.m. Tuesdays in November.

Soul Collage is a method of self-discovery through the creation and analysis of a deck of created cards. People make their own decks of cards from images found in magazines, calendars, books, cards, photos and personal materials.

Classes are free but donations are accepted. Call the center at 330-539-0122 for more information or to register.

INTERFAITH CHOIR: Simple Gifts Interfaith Choir is planning a performance with the Youngstown Symphony Orchestra for March 2020. The 80-voice choir will perform in collaboration with Singers Together and The Youngstown Connection for the YSO’s program entitled “Spiritual Journey: The Road to Peace and Freedom,” featuring world-renowned tenor Lawrence Brownlee.

Simple Gifts Interfaith Choir is comprised of singers from Mahoning, Trumbull, Columbiana and Portage counties, as well as Mercer and Lawrence counties in Pennsylvania. All singers are welcome to participate.

FIRST FRIDAY CLUB: First Friday Club of Greater Youngstown will host Sister Carolyn Capuano 11:30 a.m. Dec. 5 at Avion on the Water Banquet Center, 2177 W. Western Reserve Road, Canfield.

She is vice president for Mission and Ministry at Mercy Medical Center. Capuano will speak on “Ministry Changed Not Ended: The Mercy-St. Paul Square Story.” There will be an opportunity for participants’ questions to follow.
