Seeing Eye: Builders hired for library renovation

RENOVATION ADVANCES: The Building and Sites Committee of the Board of Trustees of the Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County chose the team of the AMHigley Co. of Cleveland and Dawn Inc. of Warren as construction manager at large for the renovation of the historic Main Library, 305 Wick Ave., Youngstown.

The committee used a qualifications-based process for the selection. The trustee committee reviewed proposals, conducted interviews and reviewed rankings.

AMHigley/Dawn Inc. were chosen from a field of four finalists. The others were Donley’s of Cleveland, DeSalvo Construction of Hubbard and Mark Hudson Construction Inc. of Hermitage, Pa.

In April, the board voted to hire Bostwick Design Partnership of Cleveland as architect for the main library renovation project. Bostwick is working locally with RBF CoLab and Paul Hagman, collaborating architect restoration design, and with CT Consultants, civil engineer.

HUMAN TRAFFICKING

SYMPOSIUM: A symposium on human trafficking will be held 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 25 in the Kilcawley Center at Youngstown State University. The event is a product among Mercy Health Foundation, YSU, the Salvation Army and Northeastern Coalition Against Human

Trafficking.

The goal of the event is to bring together resources and individuals that may have any exposure to the victims of human trafficking. Areas of concentration are legislation / professionalism, law enforcement, medical, social work / psychological, and prevention / education.

TRUNK OR TREAT: Disciples Christian Church, 565 Boardman Canfield Road, will hold a Trunk or Treat 1 to 3 p.m. Oct. 27. The event will include candy, cookies and games.

FARMERS MARKET: The Austintown Farmers Market is hosting a Fall Fest today at Austintown Township Park, 6000 Kirk Road, Austintown.

The night’s activities will include a costumed 5K and kids’ fun run, trunk or treat featuring area businesses, Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians rummage sale, a bounce house courtesy of Austintown Bounce and miniature pumpkin painting courtesy of Austintown GetGo. Macaroni Kid will provide kids’ activities, and face painting will be provided by the Austintown Fitch High School Art Club. The night will be topped off with a bonfire, courtesy of the Austintown Fire Department.

FASHIONS AND SALADS: First Presbyterian Church, 201 Wick Ave., Youngstown, in celebration of the 75th anniversary of the Protestant Family Service, will hold a Feast of Salads and Fashion Show fundraiser Oct. 26. The event will include a basket auction and fashions with Macy’s and local pastors and their spouses.

Doors will open at 10 a.m., and the program will start at 11 a.m. There is limited seating. Donation is $20. Call to make a reservation 330-746-4600.

SOCIETY CALENDARS: The Niles Historical Society’s 2020 calendars are available for purchase for $10. The theme is “Old Niles Churches” and may be ordered by calling 330-652-8329. Shipping is available upon request.

The monthly open house of the Ward-Thomas House at 503 Brown Street will take place from 2 to 5 p.m. Nov. 3, with the last tour beginning at 4.

The membership meeting will begin at 10 a.m. Nov. 2 in the Westenfield Room.
