Seeing Eye: Roundtable on American heritage set

ROUNDTABLE SCHEDULED: The Rev. John Jerak, vicar for clergy and religious services and administrator for Our Lady of Sorrow Church in Youngstown, will discuss “Our American Heritage: How Our Past Enlightens Our Present,” at an hour-long roundtable 7 p.m. Thursday at the Dorothy Day House, 620 Belmont Ave., Youngstown The Dorothy Day House provides evening meals for the underserved Monday through Thursday. Shower times are also provided for clients from 1 to 4:15 p.m. on Tuesdays. Volunteers are welcome to assist with food preparation and serving meals. For information, call 330-743-1106.

VOTER GUIDE AVAILABLE: The 2019 League of Women Voters of Greater Youngstown voter information guide for Mahoning County is now available. Published annually, the guide provides non-partisan information about candidates and issues on the general election ballot. The league invites all candidates to provide information about their qualifications and to respond to one question that addresses their priorities and motivation for running. Candidates’ responses are printed verbatim, as submitted. The guide is available at www.lwvgy.com on the home page. It is also being distributed in paper form throughout Mahoning county.

HONORING VETERANS: The Broadhead Wydell Memorial team is in need of volunteers to help put a veterans list together with locations from marked to private markers and unmarked grave at Youngstown area cemeteries. CAR AND TRUCK SHOW: St. Joseph the Provider School, 1145 Turin St. Youngstown, will have a car and truckshow on Saturday with rain date Oct. 5 at Hubbard St. Patrick Church, 225 N. Main St. Hubbard. Trophies will be awarded at 2 p.m.. Registration will be from 9 to 11 am. The fee will be $7. Also, featured will be an auction, 50/50, deejay and steak hoagie sandwiches.
