Hollywood Austintown wagering continues to fall
AUSTINTOWN — Wagering on video lottery terminals in May at Hollywood Gaming Mahoning Valley Race Course fell 3.7 percent from the previous month, marking the second down month in a row at the racino.
Still, bettors in May wagered $146.5 million, according to the latest numbers from the Ohio Lottery Commission, which oversees video lottery terminals, or VLTs, in Ohio.
In April, players bet $152.2 million.
At the seven racinos in Ohio, wagering surpassed $1.3 billion, but was down about $17 million, or 1.2 percent, from the all wagering in April.
In May in Austintown, bettors won $130.6 million, down from $135.4 million in April. The racino reported a net win of $14.1 million, down from $15 million the prior month; a percent payout of 90.3, down a quarter percent; and a win per VLT per day of $404, down $41 from April. An average of 1,129 gaming machines were on the floor, the same as in April.
Of the net winnings last month, $9.3 million went to the casino operator, Wyomissing, Pa.-based Penn National Gaming Inc.; $4.7 million to the lottery commission; and $46,968 went
to programs that provide support for gambling addiction and related
services.
The commission reported in the state, bettors won $1.16 billion, down from $1.17 billion in April. The net win was $122.3 million, down from $124.5 million; the percent payout remained 90.5; and the win per VLT per day was $384, down $19 from April. The average number of gaming machines in play was 10,285, down from 10,304.
In May, $80.9 million was given to casino operators, $40.9 million to the lottery commission and $406,856 to problem gambling services.
There is no data from May 2020. The racinos were closed because of the COVID-19 pandemic and did not reopen until mid-June.
