WARREN — Robert Levin, former president and owner of Pittsburgh-based Levin Furniture, has reacquired the company, saving it from going out of business.

Levin obtained the Ohio and Pennsylvania assets of Levin Furniture, which has stores in Niles and Boardman, and Wolf Furniture through a court restructuring of the parent company Art Van Furniture, LLC, the company announced.

“I’m coming back as the owner of Levin Furniture for the employees who were at risk of losing their jobs. They are the most loyal, dedicated and hardworking people I’ve ever known. It will be a privilege and honor to once again lead this company as we prepare to celebrate 100 years in the furniture and mattress business,” Levin said in a press release.

Warren, Mich.-based Art Van Furniture, LLC bought Levin Furniture in 2017. It announced Thursday it will close all of its more than 300 stores and begin liquidation sales after struggling with heavy debt, according to Crain’s Chicago Business.

In 2018, Levin Furniture took over Goldsteins Furniture stores in Niles, Boardman and in Hermitage, Pa.

Levin Furniture, founded in 1920 in Mount Pleasant, Pa., by Levin’s grandparents, Sam and Jessie Levin, will celebrate its 100-year anniversary later this year.
