PolishYoungstown puts on Ostatki carnival celebration

PolishYoungstown will put an Eastern European spin on the traditional pre-Lent celebration with its ninth “Ostatki: A Polish Carnival Celebration” at the Youngstown Country Club.

Guests will receive a passport to be used as they tour Poland via a series of guided tastings of imported Polish vodka, beers and liquors sponsored by Zywiec Importers of New York City. There will be a Polish appetizer buffet and a dinner prepared by the YCC.

Music will be provided by Radek Fizek. The evening also will include trivia, bead contests, basket raffles and other games. The evening will climax with the presentation of the celebratory paczki (a doughnut-like pastry) with a hidden surprise for one lucky winner.

Ostatki means “the last” in Polish, and the event gives guests a final chance at merriment before the solemnity of Lent.

The party starts at 6:30 p.m. Saturday at the country club, 1402 Country Club Drive, Liberty. Tickets are $50 and will be available through Friday at Krakus Polish Deli & Bakery and Casual Pint in Boardman and online at www.polishyoungstown.org.
