Here are upcoming gardening events through the Ohio State University Extension Office. For more information and a complete list, contact:

Plant and Pest Clinic

You can submit your questions by calling the office at 330-533-5538 or emailing us at mahoningclinic@osu.edu. Please attach photos and add any information that would help research your plant and pest questions. The clinic is open April through October, Monday and Thursday 9 a.m. to noon. Walk-ins are welcome.

Growing Degree Days

What: Learn how to use Growing Degree Days to manage pests and time herbicide applications. And learn about Phenology, which is another way to access nature’s calendar.

When: 11 a.m. March 18

Prehistoric People and Tools of Ohio

What: The Naturalist Series invites subject matter experts to share their knowledge and research regarding different aspects of nature. Topics range from animals, plants, insects and more. The presenter will be John Chuey from the Mahoning County Archaeological Society.

When: 6:30 p.m. March 18

Where: Ohio State University Extension, Mahoning County, 490 S. Broad St. Canfield

Cost: $5 per class or $30 for the entire 2026 series, which can be found on the OSU Extension website.

Agriseries: Local Foods and Farm Markets

What: Join OSU Extension Mahoning County, the Mahoning County Farm Bureau and the Mahoning County Soil & Water Conservation District for the 2026 Winter Agriculture Series. This series will feature speakers presenting on key agricultural topics on select Thursdays throughout the season.

When: 6 p.m. March 26

10 Ways to Improve Your Vegetable Garden

What: Pollination, soils, watering and growing tips to improve your harvest and ways to get help to solve garden problems will be discussed.

Garden Art Series: Barn Quilt Painting

What: Learn practical techniques and fun hints to create a pleasing color palette pattern to complete an unsealed 24″ x 24″ barn quilt. All supplies are included.

MVLNA Spring Clinic

What: The Mahoning Valley Landscape and Nursery Association (MVLNA) spring clinic, featuring a full day of education, networking and industry updates. There will be an extensive lineup of speakers from The Ohio State University Extension and the green industry. Sessions will include a roundtable discussion on how MVLNA can better support members, along with updates on turf management, industrial vegetation control, ornamental insects and integrated pest management, and new trees and shrubs for the landscape. Attendees also will have the opportunity to explore a tradeshow featuring vendor displays and the latest industry products and services.
