Nursing home, prison virus cases near zero

The number of cases of COVID-19 appear to have dropped to nearly zero at nursing homes, long-term care facilities and prisons across the Mahoning Valley. The one Youngstown nursing home that had a high number of cases last week (13 patient cases and one staff case) now has just two patient cases. Data reported by the Ohio Department of Health for many other facilities showing low numbers of cases appear not to have been updated since last week — but are assumed still to be low. Ohio’s COVID cases experience major drop

Ohio had nearly a 50 percent decline in COVID-19 cases per 100,000 residents in one week. It was the third straight week of declines after 11 consecutive weeks of increases. This week saw a 49.3 percent drop from last week and a 329 percent decline from two weeks ago. Virus cases drop at state prisons

The number of COVID-19 cases among Ohio prisons dropped dramatically in the past two weeks. Last week and the week before, 256 active COVID-19 infections wre reported among staff at Ohio prisons, but the number is down to 17 this week.
