Nursing home, prison virus cases near zero

The number of cases of COVID-19 appear to have dropped to nearly zero at nursing homes, long-term care facilities and prisons across the Mahoning Valley.

The one Youngstown nursing home that had a high number of cases last week (13 patient cases and one staff case) now has just two patient cases. Data reported by the Ohio Department of Health for many other facilities showing low numbers of cases appear not to have been updated since last week — but are assumed still to be low.

Only a couple of cases were reported in Trumbull and Columbiana counties.

One new death associated with COVID-19 was reported in Trumbull County, but no new COVID-19 nursing home deaths are reported for Mahoning County.

The number of nursing home cases across the state also is down, and the number of cases at the area’s three local prisons is almost zero. Across the state prison system, only 17 current staff and 16 inmate cases have been reported.
